2023 Year-End Ministry Highlights

Tanja Hansen • December 28, 2023

We work with society’s most visible people of influence, coaches and athletes, to build Christ-centered leaders that impact lives for eternity. The never-ending message we bring is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his love for humanity, and our responsibility to tell others about him. We do this by going to the courts and fields where the coaches and athletes are.

With more than forty staff engaging on over 250 campuses in Minnesota, we are living out our calling to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. We are working to see a kingdom-building ministry on every high school and college campus in Minnesota in the next ten years.

Here are just a few snippets of the many recent ministry highlights throughout the state:

  • Woodbury High School Assistant Football Coach, Parker Theis, was asked by players to lead them in prayer before each game this season. Parker is being discipled by Twin Cities FCA Collegiate Director, David Melms, and is also now working with East Metro FCA Area Rep, Brady Bruesewitz, in launching the FCA huddle at Woodbury High School!

  • Chanhassen High School is restarting its FCA huddle this year with a great disciple leading the way - Ben Burch. The ministry is changing the culture of the school already and student leader applications are flowing in!

  • Buffalo High School put on its first FCA Fields of Faith event this fall - an opportunity for students and community members to join together at a neutral location (the football field) and share testimonies, encourage with scripture, and praise God in worship!

  • Metro Admin, Kaycee Moore, is using skills from her previous career to bring excellence to the ministry by writing weekly FCA Huddle Curriculum and providing that resource to huddle coaches throughout the metro!

  • FCA Staff, Michelle Backes, is the Chaplain for the Minnesota Lynx and has seen steady participation by WNBA athletes at MN Lynx Chapels throughout the entire season. Praise God that the players have been faithful to invite their teammates, too!

  • Urban high school student, J'hakeem, came to know Jesus at the FCA Urban Ministry retreat this year. In the past couple of years, more than 10 young men have come to faith in Jesus at North Minneapolis high schools after building Christ-centered relationships with the Twin Cities Urban FCA staff and the college mentors from Bethel and Northwestern.

  • Alexandria Area Rep, Bill Adamson's presence on campus allowed him the opportunity to serve the tennis coaches. He was there just after it had rained and decided to help squeegee the courts. One of the coaches noticed and approached Bill - a door was opened to a new relationship simply by serving!

  • The Winona State University Offensive Coordinator worked with Southeast MN FCA Director, Jimmy Westland, to start a Bible study with his coaches DURING the football season. That says a lot about his priorities and desire to put God first!

  • Southwest MN FCA Director, Robin Knudson, recently met with a student who gave her life to Jesus at Fields of Faith in October. She's eager to share her testimony of what God has done in her life with others!
