The Glory is God's

Congratulations to Miriam Manna, FCA leader, from Armstrong High School on winning the AAA award!

Every year, the Minnesota State High School League awards two seniors from each of sixteen administrative regions with this prestigious award. It goes to well-rounded students who are successful in the three As – academics, arts, and athletics.

Miriam has maintained a high GPA, plays violin in the orchestra and is active in speech and debate, and does hurdles and pole vaulting in track. Being part of each of those activities allowed her to apply for the award, but there’s so much more. Miriam also serves as the senior class president, student council president, National Honor Society president, the debate team captain, and a leader for FCA.

“I Love Jesus”

Miriam is a highly accomplished young woman full of poise and grace who has worked hard to get to the place she is. Yet she still gives all the glory to God. She says, “I love Jesus. Jesus has always been part of something my family has taught me and I personally value that a lot. I honestly don’t think I could be where I am without God’s help and God’s strength. He has blessed me with a lot of great recognition and with these president positions. I’m just really thankful because He’s given me so much and for what He has done for me this year despite everything being so different.”

Knowing Jesus Surpasses Everything Else

While many kids would (understandably so) get an inflated ego from all these accolades, Miriam remains humble because she recognizes that her talents and abilities come straight from the Lord. Her example mirrors that of the Apostle Paul who said he had more reasons to put confidence “in the flesh” than anyone because of his numerous accomplishments. But then he said, “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith” (Philippians 3:7-9).

Chris Hunt, FCA Northwest Metro Area Representative, said, “She is amazing.  She’s even helped out a couple times with the speaking with our middle school group as well, boldly sharing her faith.  She inspires me every time I hear her talk about her relationship with Christ.” Miriam daily lives out her faith wherever she goes.

A Model to Others

The daughter of immigrants from Eritrea, Miriam is paving the way for her siblings and other second generation young people in America. She said, “No one I know has ever won big awards because they just came to America. God has really blessed me in that way because I’ve become a role model to my cousins and my church family.” She is an example of what is attainable and wants to hold nothing back so she can make the biggest impact possible on the greatest number of people.

Staying Grounded

She takes that responsibility seriously, and her FCA huddle also keeps her grounded. She says, “[The huddle] consists of seven junior and senior leaders who meet every two weeks. We just started meeting again in person. Before that it was all Google meets. The turnouts weren’t horrible, but it’s better in person. We’ve been reading How to be More Like Christ and talking about how humility connects to our sports. We’ve also talked about the importance of silence and solitude,” subjects highly relevant for a successful, high-achieving girl like Miriam.

After graduation, Miriam will travel around California with her parents and two younger siblings before heading off to college at either the Carlson School of Management or Duke University. After college graduation, she plans to attend law school where she will study taxation law.

Congratulations again to Miriam and her parents on this well-deserved accomplishment. We look forward to hearing how the Lord continues to lead and guide Miriam in the future.
