Michelle Backes – FCA Staff, WNBA Chaplain, Speaker & Leadership Trainer
Michelle Backes was introduced to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in high school, where her dad served as her huddle leader. She went on to play basketball and softball at St. Olaf College, where she joined FCA and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation, she taught and coached at Eagan High School, where she also led the FCA huddle.
Since 1999, Michelle has served as chaplain for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. She’s passionate about sharing Jesus and encouraging female athletes and coaches through discipleship and spiritual support.
Michelle is also the founder of The Savvy U, a company dedicated to teaching timeless truths to transform lives. “Savvy” comes from the Latin for “to be wise”—a perfect fit for Michelle’s energetic and wisdom-filled approach as an award-winning speaker and leadership trainer.
She lives in Lindstrom, Minnesota, with her husband Ron (also on FCA staff), and enjoys visits from their two adult children, son-in-law, and their very spoiled dog, Suki. Michelle is a big fan of sports, sunshine, and finding the fun (and the puns) in life.
