Jenny’s life was impacted for eternity because her brother attended FCA Leadership Camp.
Reed Nyffeler (Jenny’s older brother) attended FCA Leadership Camp in Estes, CO (which is actually where the first FCA camp was ever held in 1956) while he was in high school. It was at that camp that he heard the Gospel, believed, and came home to Nebraska a changed person.
Reed came back on fire for Jesus (and Jenny made sure to add that he still is today!) and immediately took on a leadership role within his FCA huddle. Over Reed’s high school career, the huddle grew to over 200 student-athletes!
He and a group of students who went to camp decided to expand the ministry even further and helped start a huddle at the middle school, too. They knew the value of extending the leadership structure to the lower grades so that ministry would continue at their school long after they graduated. That’s where Jenny heard the Gospel and believed.
“I saw how different my brother was and I saw his group of friends and how different they were from the culture of typical high school students,” Jenny said. “There was something so authentic about that group and I wanted to be part of it, which is why I went to FCA. But then, I heard the gospel and was like, ‘Wow! I can be forgiven of sin and go to Heaven?!’”
Jenny shared more about the culture of that student-leadership team and how the bond and the vision they had spurred one another on – “They were magnetic. They were an influential group of leaders that attracted people to the Truth. And they never lived as though it was about them, it was entirely about the hope of the Gospel.”
Camp was a catalyst in Reed’s life. Now, over 30 years later, he has served on an FCA Board of Directors and continues to lead an FCA huddle today as an adult volunteer. His kids have also been student leaders on their campus. And his sister (Jenny) and brother-in-law (Brian) are now on FCA staff leading the entire Northland Region (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin).
“I can’t even imagine how many people have heard the Gospel because he went to camp,” says Jenny.
Reed reflected on his camp experience - “FCA Leadership Camp was a time to separate from the distraction of the world for a week and hear about and from God. That time gave me clarity and direction for my life which led to a calling to be a leader for Christ in all I do.”
We praise God for how He worked through Reed at FCA Leadership Camp and called him to be a Christ-centered leader within his FCA huddle, as a captain on his team, and now a leader in his family and his business.
