Do you enjoy being around high-energy youth? Do you love Jesus and want to see others grow in their walks with Him? Do you want to receive training that you can use for the rest of your life? Consider applying for a summer internship with Minnesota FCA like Sam, Gretchen, and Hannah. Read their stories and consider spending a life-changing summer with FCA.

“Learn to Love People”

Gretchen did her FCA internship during the summer of 2018. She mentored five middle and high school girls, helped with a local mini sports camp, and served as a huddle leader at Regional Sports Camp in Iowa and Leadership Camp in Minnesota. Area interns also met weekly for training where they learned to build relationships, deal with conflict, and communicate effectively.

One of Gretchen’s greatest takeaways was learning that people are at different places in their walks with the Lord and that it is important to meet people where they are at. She remarked that regardless of a person’s age or stage of faith, it is vital to love people in that place. She carries that with her, and it has helped her to love others with Christ’s love even since her experience as an FCA intern.

Not only was Gretchen able to pour into the lives of young people, but she personally grew during the summer as well. “I became a stronger, more confident, Christ-centered leader through this internship,” she says. Before becoming an intern, she was not confident in sharing her faith, but FCA taught her how to share her testimony and gave her many opportunities to be real with other young women who were growing in their faiths.

“Build Trusting Relationships”

Sam was an intern in the summer of 2019. He participated in the same types of activities as Gretchen. Sam says, “My internship with Minnesota FCA has been the most impactful internship experience I have had yet. As an intern you aren’t only doing ministry. You have days where you are being poured into spiritually and as a future professional joining the workforce.”

Sam loved learning new skills that he immediately had a chance to apply. He would attend weekly training with other FCA interns and go out the next day to practice these skills to draw others into a deeper relationship with Christ. He learned how to build solid relationships with others. This was most obvious to him when he served as a huddle leader at Sports Camp in Iowa when he was able to develop trusting relationships with some of the football players. Sam recognizes that these skills are also beneficial to him in college and will be vital in his professional life as well.

“Grow in Christlikeness”

Hannah also served as an intern for the Summer of 2019. Like Gretchen and Sam, she served as a huddle leader at various FCA camps around the Twin Cities and was involved in mentoring relationships. She was grateful for the opportunities she had to grow in her walk with God through the trainings offered by FCA. The servant-hearted leadership was so embedded in the ministry of FCA that it allowed God to move in and through the hearts of the young people she served. Hannah learned to rely on the Holy Spirit’s guidance in her work and found that when she tried to go by her own agenda, things never went as well as when she surrendered to how God was leading her as an intern.

Hannah says this about her internship experience, “God’s faithfulness and the work that He did in my own life and in the lives of those around me during my internship was so tangible and evident. Not only was I given the opportunity to pour into the lives of campers and students, but I was also being poured into by the incredible FCA staff and other interns. This internship experience was unique in that it allowed me to do and experience so many different aspects of ministry and to also connect sports to Christ.”

Go!

Spending the summer as an intern will not only allow you to pour into the lives of young people, but you will grow exponentially as well as you attend trainings, rub shoulders with FCA staff, and learn how to trust God more fully. Listen to what Hannah, Sam, and Gretchen have to say about becoming a summer intern with FCA.

Hannah:

“My summer as an intern was such a gift. FCA is centered around and founded upon the Gospel and it was an honor being able to intern and learn from such Jesus-centered people and build such strong relationships with others.”

Sam:

“The internship is great for individuals who want to learn how their everyday lives should be changed by the Gospel, and how they can do God’s work in whatever career meets their passions. Lastly, to any college students who might be on the fence about applying for this internship. ‘God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called.’”

Gretchen:

“If you’re thinking about doing this internship, do it! You won’t regret it!”
