Introducing this Summer’s Interns!

Yes, you read that right. FCA will still have interns this summer. Many camps are canceled, but there is plenty of ministry to do, and these interns will grow and have fun in the process. Each intern will be connected to two or more discipleship groups for the summer, work as Huddle Leaders for several FCA day camps that are still taking place, partner with FCA staff to connect with additional student huddle leaders, and participate in a weekly discipleship group just for them that will focus on the Gospel of Mark. Each intern may have additional components to the internship depending on their personal interests and area of college study.

Minnesota FCA has greatly enhanced its internship program over the last four years to be even more intentional in reaching young people with the gospel and training up future leaders who will continue making an impact for Christ for years to come. Interns can often reach young people in ways others can’t because they are young, high-energy, fun, and have personal stories to share about faith that teens can relate to. In addition, because of the quality training they receive and the connections they make with other interns, they leave their internship with life skills that will help them be successful leaders in their future endeavors.

Meet this year’s interns: Telma, Cole, Rachel, Emily, Elizabeth, and Gina.

Telma

Telma’s top bucket list item is to go sky diving. She is a senior at Crown College studying Communications/Public Relations. She hopes to join the Air Force Reserves in the Special Forces unit.

One of her favorite verses is Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Cole

Cole wants to climb to the peak of Mount Everest someday. He is a senior at the University of St. Thomas studying Exercise Science. He plans to go into osteopathic medicine.

Cole loves Psalm 23:4 which says, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Emily

Emily wants to set foot on every continent (except Antarctica – she didn’t say why 😊). She is a sophomore at Bethel University studying biokinetics.

She wants to make sure everyone knows 1 John 4:4 – “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

Rachel

Rachel is looking forward to things opening back up in the nation so she can go on a road to Colorado and head back to church. She is a recent graduate of Bethel University with a degree in International Relations/Exercise Science. She hopes to work for a global non-profit.

Rachel’s favorite verse is, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (1 John 4:4).

Elizabeth

Elizabeth also wants to travel – to places like Finland, Bora Bora, and “basically anywhere.” She also wants to own her own horse and equine therapy barn. She is a sophomore at North Central University in Minneapolis and is studying to become a middle school math teacher.

Her current favorite verse is, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).

Gina

Gina hopes to one day go sky diving in Hawaii (maybe she and Telma could go together). She will be a junior at Bethel in the fall studying Organizational Communication, Marketing, and Graphic Design.

Gina is working on living out 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Some of the interns have been involved with FCA in the past, and others are new to the ministry. They are all excited to see how God will use them this summer. Cole wants kids to learn how to life a life that glorifies God in all they do. Elizabeth hopes the students she works with, “will understand more about their relationship with Jesus and how to keep growing in him and their faith even when life gets tough.”

Emily sums up perfectly what all the interns hope to accomplish this summer: “My main goal is to equip kids with practical steps to grow in their own faith spiritually and find ways to live it out. Through that, I believe that they will not only find the peace that only comes through Jesus, but others will notice and ask questions about it. I hope they also feel equipped to share the Gospel themselves and understand that though we are all imperfect, we are perfectly loved by our savior Jesus Christ.”

We know these six young adults will make a lasting impact on youth this summer, be drawn into a deeper relationship with Christ themselves, and develop a lasting connection with the other interns. Please be praying that their impact this summer would be great.
