“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” - 1 Timothy 6:12

A cage match is a brutal sport where the opponents fight to get the other into submission. Punching, kicking, body slams, and more are used to achieve that goal- and Brittany Nieman loves it.

How does her love of cage fighting and her love of Christ go together then? Brittany has Psalm 56:11 on her uniform, “In God, I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me” and shows Christ through her example. Even if her sport can be violent in nature, she is always sure to give God thanks for any win, and if she loses, to accept it with a gentle heart and give her opponent a hug. “Within my character and how I reflect myself, people can still see Christ.”

Like Brittany, we too must fight- for the fight of a Christian is never-ending. We must put on the armor of God each and every day to protect us from “the powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). Are we willing to stand up for the truth of God, and face those evil forces to save the souls of others? We, like Brittany, are in a cage match and we too must force our opponent (the enemy) into submission.

Reflect:

  • What as Christians do we fight for? Is there a time in your life when you had to fight especially hard for it?
  • When our enemy comes at us, how do we as Christians place them in submission?
